African Liberation Day Poster Short Description
Africa & the Diaspora
1977
African people and allies across the world protested for independence and freedom.
Between the 1950s and 1970s, African countries fought for freedom from colonial rule. These national liberation movements were often part of larger anticolonial efforts and took many forms—from peaceful transitions of power to full-scale military conflicts.
The fight for independence from colonial rule was expressed through political action, armed resistance, and cultural creation. Many international communities supported and drew inspiration from African freedom fighters. This poster advertises a march and rally in Washington, D.C., in support of African liberation.
