Lollaretta Pemberton (1895–1979) was born in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from Prairie View State Normal & Industrial College and Tuskegee Institute and worked as the head of the Home Economics Department at Central High School in Marshall. She married Grover Allen in 1939. Grover Allen (1889–1984) worked at the post office in Marshall and later became a doctor, practicing medicine when the couple relocated to Los Angeles, California.
