Pan-African Congress
Africa & the Diaspora
1921
Pan-African Congresses brought together leaders from across the Black diaspora.
African Americans have long been interested in maintaining a connection to their African heritage. The New Negro Movement supported African countries confronting colonialization.
Though Pan-Africanism arose in the 18th century, activists from across the globe gathered in 1900 for a series of Pan-African Congresses. These congresses brought together Black representatives of many nations to discuss shared political platforms.
